Not receiving text messages on Android? 7 solutions to try
1. Check your network connections
If your network signal is unstable in a particular location, you may be unable to receive text messages on your android phone. Therefore you need to move away from that location to an area with better connectivity.
2. Disable Airplane Mode
If airplane mode is enabled, it disconnects all wireless connections and as result, you will be unable to receive text messages on android. To turn of airplane mode, swipe down your android from the top to reveal the notification area, then look for “Airplane mode” or “Flight mode”, and disable it if it is turned on. You can also disable it in the following steps:
- Launch the Settings app.
- Click on Wi-Fi & Network
- Locate the Airplane mode and switch it off.
3. Clear Text Messaging App Cache
Corrupt cached data on your android messaging app can also make it difficult to receive text messages. To clear cached data for your messaging app:
- Launch the Settings > Storage > Other apps > Messages. If you are on Samsung, open Settings > Apps > Messages > Storage.
- Click on Clear cache and then try sending a text message from another phone to yours to see if you can now receive text.
4. Confirm that the number isn’t blocked
If you are not receiving text messages on Android from a particular number, then it’s possible that the number is blocked on your device. To check for this,
- Launch your phone contact app
- Click on the three-dot menu at the top right.
- Click on Settings from the drop-down menu.
- Select Blocked numbers
- If the number you are not receiving text from is in the list of blocked numbers, click the X button to unblock it.
5. Restart your phone
If your android has been on for too long, it can start to misbehave. So you occasionally need to switch off your phone and switch it back on to enable it to always function in top gear. You can power off most Android device by pressing and holding the power button on the side or top of the phone (depending on the location) to power it off, after which you can power it on again.
6. Update your Android device
You may be unable to receive text if your phone is suffering from a bug or software issue. In this case, you need to update your Android. Updating your device is easy but you need an internet connection to do so. To update your device:
- Launch your Settings app, and click on System.
- Select System updates.
- Download and install the available updates.
- Your phone should reboot and then you can check if you are now able to receive text messages on your Android phone.
