Here's How to Edit Text Messages on iPhone

What if you misspelled something? Or accidentally sent an embarrassing message? Luckily, in a new feature, Apple makes it easy to edit text messages on iPhone so that you can fix any mistakes that you’ve made along the way. We’ll show you how in this post.

How to edit text messages on iPhone

To edit a sent message on iPhone, simply tap and hold the text you want to edit and from the drop-down menu that appears, click on the ‘Edit’ button.

You can then make your changes without fully deleting it and tap Done when you’re finished. Then resend the message

On every device you’re texting to, the updated version of your message will take the place of the older one. And whoever you sent it to will see the phrase “Edited” beneath the message. If they tap on it, they will be able to view both the original text and every edits you made.

After submitting a message, you have up to 15 minutes to change it. After then, the Edit option will no longer be available.

Deleting text messages on iPhone – what you should know

You can only edit iMessages, that is, texts delivered to other Apple devices, which show up on your smartphone as blue bubbles. It won’t work with SMS messages, which Android and other non-Apple phones transmit as green bubbles.

This feature will only be made available to iPhone devices running iOS 16. So you will need to update your iPhone to the latest iOS 16 version to use this feature. We expect the iOS 16 update to be released to the public in September later this year. But for now, you can sign up for the Apple Beta software program to test this feature.

Both the sending device and the receiving device needs to have updated to the iOS 16 for this feature to work properly. If the device you are texting to isn’t updated, the edited message you send will appear as a new message with the words “Edited to,” instead of replacing the old one.

In conclusion, to edit text messages on your iPhone is a quick and easy way to make sure your messages are clear and concise. Plus, it can help you save time when messaging back and forth with friends or family. This post is a step-by-step guide on how to edit text messages on iPhone.
