Apple’s iPhone 12 which was released in 2020, came with arguably the biggest talking point: its new charging technology. Not only does this charger look quite different, but it also appears to do some different things too – and many people have been wondering what is Magsafe, how it works, and if it is worth the hype. It’s a good thing then that we can answer these questions and help you learn more about Magsafe – so read on to find out how more about this newest iPhone charging technology.

What is Magsafe

What is Magsafe Charger?

The MagSafe charger is a new type of charger that was introduced with the iPhone 12. This charger uses magnets to attach to the back of the iPhone, making it easier to align and charge. The MagSafe charger also has a built-in magnet that helps keep the charger in place on a metal surface.

What sets MagSafe apart from Qi, is its use of magnets to correctly align the coils, resulting in a perfect match every time and the ability to charge at a higher wattage (up to 15 watts, depending on the phone and charger) than other wireless charging technologies.

How does a MagSafe charger work?

So how does the MagSafe charger work? When the charger is connected to power, the built-in magnet creates a magnetic field that inductively charges the iPhone. The phone’s magnetometer then aligns the phone’s charging coil with the charger’s, allowing for a more efficient charge.

The MagSafe charger is a convenient and easy way to charge your iPhone. It’s also a great way to keep your phone from being accidentally knocked off a table or other surface.

Difference between wireless charging and MagSafe

MagSafe and wireless charging are two popular methods for charging electronic devices. MagSafe is a proprietary technology developed by Apple, while wireless charging is an open standard. Both technologies have their benefits and drawbacks.

MagSafe is a magnetic charging technology that uses magnets to align the charging connector with the device. This makes it easy to connect the charger and prevents accidental disconnection. MagSafe is also faster than wireless charging, so it’s ideal for devices that need to be charged quickly. However, MagSafe is only compatible with Apple devices and is not as widely available as wireless chargers.

Wireless chargers are typically slower than MagSafe chargers, but they can be used with any device that supports wireless charging. Wireless chargers are also more widely available, so it’s easier to find one that works with your device.

If you have been asking the question “what is Magsafe”? And wanting to know all you need to know about it, I hope this post was of use to you.
