What does KEKW mean on Twitch?

KEKW is a Twitch chat emote that denotes “laughter”. It is popular among the Twitch community. The emote is based on El Risitas (Juan Joya Borja) a Spanish actor and comedian. It can be used when a situation seems funny to us and we are bursting out in laughter.

What does KEKW mean

Origin Of The KEKW Word

The term KEKW was formed in the game World of Warcraft because if an Alliance player types a LOL in chat, a Horde player sees it as KEK. The final W was added as it is the most-used facial expression on Twitch “W.” The origin of the KEKW emote is none other than an interview with “El Risitas” by Jesus Quintero. El Risitas became known because he had this very funny laugh that would also make you laugh, even if you didn’t understand Spanish. Laughter was his trademark and the emote pictures a frame of “El Risitas” while he burst out laughing when telling a joke.

KEKW Popularity

In August 2019, the KEKW emote became popular when viewers of streaming channels such as xQc and AdmiralBulldog started using it.

As a matter of fact, one of the Risitas videos is now popularly used as a meme to this day. It has subtitles in different languages and is used to depict how different companies or people are laughing at their audience with their products.

LUL was previously the most used emote but it seems it has lost its place to KEKW. Some streamers have even formed more emotes out of the KEKW emote like KEKWOW and KEKWhat and are now using it on their channels.

How To Pronounce KEKW

The term KEKW reads like this: “ke-keu”.

Rounding Up

The KEKW emote come from the Spanish actor and comedian named Juan Joya Borja, who is known as “El Risitas.” The term is used to describe when something is very funny and we are laughing until it hurts. In World of Warcraft, the Alliance read the word “KEKW” when the Horde used the expression “LOL” and this emote is of a chuckling man. It’s one of the most used emotes on Twitch, both in chat messages and as a reaction to streamers.
