LineageOS 20 for Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 6 is now available

As reported by the folks from 9to5 Google, LineageOS 20, the most recent third-party Android ROM, now supports Google’s Tensor-powered devices, including the Pixel 7 and Pixel 6 series.

Details about the LineageOS 20 for Google Pixel 7 and Google Pixel 6

Earlier, the LineageOS development team released a new version, providing full Android 13 support for several dozen devices, including Google’s phones dating back to the Pixel 4. Besides the Android 13 improvements, LineageOS 20 also offered a revamped camera app called Aperture.

However, the ROM did not support any of Google’s newest phones until now, beginning with the Pixel 6 series. Presumably, this was due to Google’s decision to employ its own Tensor chips in its phones, which are not found in any other devices, making it difficult to share work between phones built on the same Snapdragon chip.

Today, the LineageOS team updated its official list of supported devices, adding all five phones powered by Google’s Tensor and Tensor G2 chips, including the Pixel 6 (oriole), Pixel 6 Pro (raven), Pixel 6a (bluejay), Pixel 7 (panther), and Pixel 7 Pro (cheetah).

While Google actively supports all of these devices, the release of LineageOS 20 may be particularly exciting for those who enjoy modding their phone to the fullest. With time, the LineageOS team’s attention could lead to these Tensor-powered Pixel phones receiving updates beyond what Google offers.

With official support from the LineageOS team, builds will be compiled from the project’s source code, signed using the team’s signing keys, and distributed via their servers. Hence, ensuring stability above all else, and making sure that all hardware that works on the stock firmware will also work after flashing their build.
