According to Taiwanese reports, Apple expects the A17 Bionic processor, apparently made by TSMC on the 3 nm FinFet technology process, to enhance power efficiency by 35%. According to sources, this, together with the new camera and USB-C charging connector, will be a significant feature driving “replacement demand” among iPhone consumers.
According to DigiTimes, Apple has purchased the whole first manufacturing batch of TSMC’s 3 nm processors, making it the sole smartphone maker having such a chip in 2023. The A17 Bionic processor is believed to be used by Apple in the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. These devices will also have a new design, a periscope camera, and solid-state volume and power buttons.
The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are anticipated to have the A16 Bionic processor, but they will also get the USB-C treatment after the European Commission essentially forced Apple to abandon the Lighting port.
