June Feature Drop is also rolling out for the Google Pixel phones(not just the Google Pixel Watch). Feature drops are the avenue by which the Big G integrates a lot of impressive features in Google devices. Let’s take a look at what we’ve got this time.

June Feature Drop update

Pixel phones June Feature Drop details

Here are the features from the June Feature Drop that will be arriving on Google Pixel phones.

Macro Focus Video + Palm Timer

Starting with the camera, the Pixel 7 Pro now has Macro Focus Video for “butterflies fluttering or flowers waving in the wind” in addition to close-up stills (as near as three centimeters away) thanks to auto-focus on the ultrawide lens.

Similarly, Google Camera (on Pixel 6 and later) will allow you to start a selfie timer (3 or 10 seconds) by simply lifting your palm to the phone, a function that was initially offered on the Pixel Fold. Before beginning the procedure, a yellow box will identify your hand. This is quite beneficial if your phone is propped up on a faraway surface, even if you aren’t that far away. Google Camera 8.9 with support is now available in the Play Store.

Emoji + Cinematic Wallpapers

Emoji Wallpapers, which debuted at I/O 2023, let you mix and combine over 4,000 characters. When you open Wallpaper & Style, you’ll see a new Emoji choice with the other albums.

With the standard keyboard selection, you may show up to 14 emoji. The Patterns page offers designs such as Mosaic, Lotus, Stacks, Sprinkle, and Prism, as well as a zoom density slider at the bottom. Finally, you may select a backdrop and emoji color, as well as a “Randomize” option.

Once configured, you may make the emoji interactive. This is a live wallpaper, and tapping on it will cause it to react/jiggle. Emoji Wallpapers are accessible on Pixel 4a and later devices.

Cinematic Wallpapers (Pixel 6+) turn any standard photo into a 3D image. Select a picture for your wallpaper as usual, and in the top-right corner, you’ll see a new glitter button that will activate the cinematic effect.

Home Panel on Pixel phones

Home Panel, which was first unveiled on the Pixel Tablet, is now coming to phones. When you hit the Home symbol in the bottom-left corner of your lock screen or the Quick Settings tile, you’ll see a new view that corresponds to the Favorites tab in the new Google Home app.

Instead of having to create a new toggle grid, particularly for this view, Google will reuse the in-app structure. Automation and actions, in addition to devices, can be included. When you access sensitive devices, you will be required to unlock them.

Other features

Speaker Labels will be searchable in recordings in Recorder, while identified persons will appear in the video clips you may create (Pixel 6+). The app has also enhanced the transcription export feature, with your Speaker Labels now displaying in Google Docs with time stamps.

On the safety front, you can use your voice to initiate and stop Emergency Sharing, as well as order Google Assistant to perform a Safety Check. (“Hey, Google, start a safety check for 30 minutes.”) Similarly, Car Crash Detection will notify emergency contacts of your current position and call status in addition to phoning 911.

And then there’s Adaptive charging and Adaptive Haptics. “Adaptive Charging now uses Google Al to help extend the lifespan of your Pixel battery. When you plug in your phone, it can predict a long charging session based on your previous charging habits, and slowly charge to 100% one hour before it’s expected to be unplugged”

Adaptive haptics will let the Pixel 6a and 7a “lower its vibration intensity when it detects that it’s on a hard, flat surface like a desk or table.” So there you have it. The June Feature Drop from Google Pixel phones. It is worth noting that while some of these features will be available for a variety of Google Pixel phones, few will be for those phones higher up.
