While most phones are still stuck in the November 2023 Google Play System update, some Pixel users are already receiving the January 2024 update. Unfortunately, the update is causing some problems, as users report a new storage issue.
After installing the January 2024 Google Play System update that started rolling out a couple of days ago, the internal storage access issue seems to have resurfaced. It happened in October 2023 and has resurfaced after the latest Play System update.
The problems are the same, as users cannot access files stored in internal storage across all their apps. It has resulted in crashes, especially the camera app, while the Files app is empty. Screenshots are not getting saved, and it is difficult to play downloaded video/audio files.
Fortunately, only a few people are having the issue, as the January 2024 Google Play System update has not been widely rolled out. We believe Google must have halted the rollout to analyze the problem before starting the rollout again. Of course, if you get the update, we recommend not installing it to avoid the new storage issue.
Google has already acknowledged the problem and will probably release a fix soon. We don’t know how soon, but a new system update might be required for those affected. You can follow our social media platforms to know when the update starts rolling out.
