Xiaomi never stops adding new features to its in-house MIUI Android skin. Since the company started MIUI 12 closed beta test, a lot of new features have been introduced. However, most of them are yet to arrive for stable ROM users, but according to reports, we might finally see them debut with the MIUI 12.5.
The MIUI 12 closed beta test is now suspended so engineers can focus on the development of the MIUI 12.5. It’s still unclear when the update will start rolling out to beta testers nor stable ROM users. However, considering the pace at which the company is moving, we might see the new iteration of MIUI debut alongside the Mi 11 series, which is alleged to launch on December 29.
The MIUI 12.5 update, no doubt, is going to introduce all the features currently limited to closed beta testers to stable ROM users. We made a list of possible MIUI 12.5 features, which you can access through this link. However, the company isn’t done optimizing and introducing new features as it adds a new floating window and 5G toggle with a recent MIUI 12 beta release.
According to a short video posted on Weibo, the china development MIUI version 20.12.7 adds support for a new floating window and 5G toggle. The 5G toggle is integrated into the new control center, while you can access the new floating window by pulling down the notification panel.
The new floating window, which is integrated into the notification panel, lets you open a small window to reply to a conversation without opening the app. It’s different from what’s obtainable now because it let you see previous conservation.
How the new floating window works
- Step 1. Pull down the notification panel
- Step 2. Long press on the preferred notification
- Step 3. Pull down the notification to open a small window
- Step 4. Move it to any location on the screen and from there reply to a conversation
The 5G toggle, of course, will only be enabled on 5G supported phones. We expect a wider rollout with the introduction of MIUI 12.5, which is going to allow a seamless switch between 5G networks. As for the new floating window, it’s currently available on few Xiaomi phones. However, we expect more devices to adopt the feature with MIUI 12.5.
