Cloud gaming has enabled high-quality games to be played on less powerful hardware, thereby expanding the number of locations where games may be played. According to reports, Sony is developing a new PlayStation handheld that will disregard the company’s cloud gaming and instead depend on streaming a nearby console.
Details on the new PlayStation handheld
According to Insider Gaming, Sony is working on a new PlayStation handheld codenamed “Q Lite.” The portable gadget would not be a cloud gaming device; instead, customers would need to buy a PlayStation 5 console and use Sony’s “Remote Play” function to play games.
The “Q Lite” is said to include an 8-inch 1080p LCD touchscreen and can play games at up to 60 frames per second. It would offer haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and important portable features including speakers, an audio jack, and volume controls, similar to the PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller.
The portable is reportedly still in final testing and might come before the predicted “PlayStation 5 Pro,” which is slated later in 2024. The portable is thought to be part of Sony’s “second phase of the PS5”, which also features a redesigned PS5 with a removable disc drive, new wireless headphones, and a new wireless headset.
According to 9to5google, Cloud gaming appears to be an easy method for Sony to extend its PlayStation audience, with this “Q Lite” gadget possibly acting as a more economical point of entry compared to a standard console, despite its restricted library. Purchasing a portable that requires a pricey console to go with it is absurd. Cloud gaming isn’t ideal, but combining it with Remote Play looks like a no-brainer.
