In an era when smartphone makers are trying everything possible to eliminate the 3.5mm headphone jack, Xiaomi has patented a new phone with an in-built wireless earbud. It’s the first time such a design has surfaced on the internet, and it’s not a surprise that’s coming from Xiaomi.
The company is innovative driven, especially with its Mi Mix flagship line. However, it’s still unclear for the time being if Xiaomi will release this phone and under which of their smartphone line if they decide to announce it.
Details of the new Xiaomi phone with an in-built wireless earbuds housing
Looking at the top of the device, there are two circular plates placed at both ends that looks like a speaker. Perhaps, they are. It turns out the circular plates are two wireless earbuds. Finally, it looks like Xiaomi has found a way to house the earbuds, just like the S-pen in Galaxy Note, by developing a special housing for them.
Interesting is the flexibility of the earbuds. When they are inside the housing, the speakers are projected upwards. It can turn into the phone speakers when left slightly outside the compartment. Also, when the earbuds are out of the housing completely, it can be adjusted to fit inside the ear.
Nevertheless, there isn’t any official information on the functionality of the earbuds, but it’s going to be connected via Bluetooth. It will be best if the connection is automatic, and there should be a noise reduction Technology in-built for better sound production in noisy settings.
Xiaomi phone with an in-built wireless earbuds housing and under-screen camera surface
Another eye-catching thing about the new patent is design. It probably has an aluminum body with a wide frame, looking like an Apple iPhone design. The bezels are thin and come without a notch, which means the device could use an under-screen selfie camera.

However, we’re yet to see a smartphone debut with an under-screen camera. The last time something of such surfaced on the internet was last year. Interestingly, it was Xiaomi that claims to be working on such a camera solution, and maybe it’s time to debut a smartphone of such.
But while the new Xiaomi phone with an in-built wireless earbuds housing and the under-screen camera seems nice on pictures, the execution is still a doubt. Recent smartphone designs have tried to eliminate the headphone jack, due to the compact housing, hence, it doesn’t make sense introducing a bigger housing, which is x4 of the headphone jack.
It’s important to note that an extra compartment will require additional costs. The aesthetics, also, are under scrutiny here. In a situation where one of the earbuds gets missing or damaged, the design will be jeopardized, unless the company plans to offer a replacement. Nevertheless, it’s only a patent, and we don’t even know if the device will make it to the shelves. But whichever way to look at it, the device is still a top design.
