The Redmi 8 series was one of Xiaomi’s best selling devices in the first half of 2020, with over 30million units sold at that time. Redmi 8A, which debuted towards the end of last year, with Snapdragon 439 SoC and a more affordable price tag, contributed largely to those numbers.
And having made its debut pre-installed with Android 9 on top MIUI 11 Android skin, the device was always in-line for the Android 10 and MIUI 12 updates. Currently, both updates are now live, with the former finally making a trip to Europe.
The Android 10 update for Redmi 8A is arriving with a stable MIUI 11 build. It has a version number, ‘V11.0.1.0 QCPEUXM’, and weighs in at 1.7GB. Aside from bringing the much-awaited OS upgrade, it bumps the Android security patch to July 2020, improves the system security, and fixes bugs. Thus far, no issue has been reported, unlike the Redmi Note 7 users in Europe that have been reporting a series of bug after receiving the Android 10.
Of course, the update will be delivered via OTA, and as such, will probably take some time before appearing on all eligible units. However, you can head over to System Updates and manually scan for the Android 10 update for Redmi 8A.
As per when the MIUI 12 build will start arriving on the Redmi 8A, a recent report says towards the tail of this month. It’s important to note here that Xiaomi didn’t give any ETA, hence, treat the information with a pinch of salt.
Nevertheless, we will update this space once the update starts rolling out. For now, we would like to know your experience with the Android 10, did the update come alongside something weird. This user on Mi community forum now has 5G on top of his network bar, you can see on the picture below.
