It’s been only a few days since Google uploaded the Android 12 source code to Android Open Source Project. And while that happens almost simultaneously with the stable release, Google says the update will arrive on Pixel phones in the coming weeks. However, with the open-source release, OEMs and developers can get to work. That has seen Xiaomi start pushing the update to its eligible phones, including Xiaomi Mi 11, Mi 11 Ultra, and Mi 11i. Surprisingly, developers have beaten Google to the stable Android 12 release as the first Android 12-based custom ROM for Redmi K20 Pro / Mi 9T Pro is released.
While the latest version of Android is currently a beta build, the developers of the Android 12-based custom ROM claim the build is much stable. It’s a developer from XDA, abhishek987 who made the ROM for Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro, but there’s a broken feature. The SELinux is set to permissive because Google is yet to open source its Money dynamic theming system. It’s expected to happen with the release of Android 12.1, but the Android 12-based custom ROM for Redmi K20 Pro / Mi 9T Pro uses an alternative theming system. The current theming system adopted is designed by XDA senior developer, kdrag0n.
According to our source, Redmi K20 Pro / Mi 9T Pro users that wish to flash this firmware should first flash the device’s latest region-specific stable ROM. That means you can install the ROM irrespective of your phone’s ROM channel. However, it’s advised that you don’t install this ROM on your primary phone. Although developers claim it is stable, it doesn’t mean you won’t notice any bugs. However, if you wish to proceed, below is the link to download the ROM.
