Google is rolling out the Android 14 QPR1 beta 2 update ahead of the December stable release. The update brings new features and changes while resolving issues for Pixel phones, Tablet, and Fold.
The stable Android 14 update started rolling out days ago, and Google is already working on new features for Pixel phones. With the Android 14 QPR1 Beta 2 update, Google has made some changes, which will arrive for everyone in December.
Google has removed the “continue using apps on Fold” introduced in Android QPR1 Beta 1. Also, the Custom app aspect ratio, which allowed viewing apps not optimized for bigger screens, is now labeled “experimental.”
Also, the system update page in settings have been redesigned. Perhaps Google is preparing for its proposed seven years of Android OS updates. However, the changes appear for everyone, meaning it’s not exclusive to the Pixel 8. It’s like when you click Security & Privacy and then updates in settings, however, it has been redesigned to add more options.
Under Settings>>About phones, there’s a new option, “Software Updates,” previously system update. The new dashboard shows Pixel updates, which includes system update, security patch, and Google Play System update. Also, app updates is listed, meaning you can update your apps from there as well.
Another feature is the introduction of weather in Google Clock. However, the feature has since been removed through a server-side update. We might see it again when the Android 14 QPR1 Beta 3 is released.
Aside from the new features, Google resolves issues with the update. It fixed the problems that caused apps to crash sometimes and scrolling animation on some devices. Below are the complete bugs addressed with Android 14 QPR1 beta 2.
