The latest news about the stable Android 14 release is October 4, which happens to be the launch date of the Pixel 8 series. That leak might not be accurate as Google might likely release the update sooner, with the Android 14 QPR1 set to start seeding this month.
Google released the stable Android 14 update with the September security patch to Googlers and Android Trusted Testers a few weeks ago. The public was supposed to receive the update after that, but late changes saw Google shift the release. Reports suggested the update could be coming on October 4, 2023, but that seems unlikely now.
The September security patch update is yet to start rolling out, and now, Android 14 QPR1 has been confirmed to roll on September 18. According to Google, we are not seeing any Android 14 beta update, as Beta 5.3 was the final patch. The next beta program cycle will cover the Android 14 December Quarterly Platform Release (QPR1) and is now being prepared.
To receive the Android 14 QPR1 next week, remain on the Android Beta program. If you want to receive the stable build, which is expected soon, you will opt out before September 18. Devices that remain in the Beta Program will continue receiving beta updates automatically.
Meanwhile, when you opt-out, “ignore/don’t apply the downgrade OTA update, and wait for the final public stable release of Android 14 (UP1A) coming soon. The OTA message will have ‘Downgrade’ in the description. Opting out will not cause a data wipe as long as you don’t apply the downgrade OTA update.”
With the recent developments, including the September 2023 security patch not rolling out for Pixel phones, we might see Stable Android 14 next week. Unfortunately, nothing is confirmed, but we are optimistic the update will start rolling out before October 4.
