Android Auto 9.1 stable released with the option to change split screen and coolwalk layout

Google has released a new stable update to its Android Auto app. The company has been paying much attention to the app since rolling out the Coolwalk feature, which is yet to arrive for everyone. However, with the Android Auto 9.1 stable, we believe more users will get the much-anticipated redesign. Aside from that, the update has enabled split screen and Coolwalk layout adjustments.

The recent Android Auto updates seem to be focusing on optimizations and bug fixes. However, the latest release brought something different, although it still addressed some issues. With Android Auto 9.1 stable, Google has enabled the option to change the screen layout.

After upgrading to Android Auto 9.1, you can change the layout of the split screen to either Media Closer to driver or Navigation closer to the driver. You’ll be able to adjust the layout from your phone or your car display.

Meanwhile, the option seems exclusive to those that have received the Coolwalk redesign. After upgrading your Android Auto app and you can’t find the option to adjust the screen layout, it probably means you don’t have the split screen redesign yet.

As usual, the update is rolling out on Google Play Store, but you can access the APK file on Telegram or using the APK mirror.

Note that Android Auto works only on devices running Android 8.0 and later. If your device meets the requirement, you can start using the app by downloading it from the Google Play store. And for those waiting for the Coolwalk feature, Google seems to be releasing the feature in batches, and we recommend installing the latest update to see if it enables it for you.
