Android Auto has been getting a lot of tweaks since last month. Earlier, one-tap message replies were enabled on Android Auto to ease messaging while driving. Adding to that the software got a redesign enabling split-screen mode. Well, another tweak to the Android Auto is that it is now exclusive to car screens.
The result of this is that this version will no longer work with your smartphones but just automobile screens. At the debut of the software in 2015, it was available for compatible vehicles and there was also a version for phone screens. However, early this month, a message appeared on Android Auto phone screens saying it will be going away soon.
While devices running on Android 12 could no longer access the software, Android 11 and prior were still left to enjoy Auto, well, that isn’t the case anymore. On clicking on the app on the phone screen, it redirects you to the Auto’s settings page where it says the platform is now exclusive to the car screens.
A replacement as Android Auto is now exclusive to the Car screen
Even if the Auto has left phone screens, the Google Assistant Driving mode is still available. This software is what is assumed to be the cause of the shutdown. The Driving mode was rolled out sluggishly in 2021 with a different UI compared to when it was announced in 2019.
Given its features, we consider it a replacement but most users don’t feel the same way. That being said, you can now say goodbye to Auto on phone screens even if it’s a tough farewell to say.
