The much-anticipated AirPods 2 Pro finally made its debut as the new top-of-the-line in-ear model from Apple. Do they, however, provide enough perks over their predecessors to warrant the price tag, or is it better to stick with the more affordable originals? Let’s find out!
The second-generation AirPods Pro, with a new H2 chip and enhanced noise cancellation, was finally introduced by the company today at the “Far Out” event, three years after the first AirPods Pro was unveiled (2x more than its predecessor). Apple is also including additional small ear tips with the new earbuds for a better in-ear fit.
According to Apple, the new AirPods 2 Pro have a custom amplifier and a low distortion audio driver to support clear audio and deeper bass. Users can create a unique spatial audio profile using the true-depth camera on their iPhone. According to the ambient noise, the company introduced adaptive transparency, which is powered by 48,000 samples per second through the new H2 chip.
Unlike the first version of AirPods, which had squeeze stem controls, the new AirPods have touch stem controls. The second-generation AirPods Pro has a six-hour battery life and a total battery life of 30 hours when using the case. That’s a huge improvement over the first-gen AirPods Pro, which had four and a half hours of listening time with active noise cancellation and up to 24 hours of listening time with the charging case. The case also has a speaker that can be used to locate the device or play sounds as alerts for pairing and low battery.
Additionally, users can charge the new AirPods Pro with their Apple Watch chargers. All MagSafe or Qi-compatible chargers are now compatible with the case. A lanyard loop that you can wear around your wrist or attach to your bag can also be attached to the case.
