Let’s get right to the point. This year, Apple is introducing three new smartwatches. We introduce to you the Apple Watch Series 8, Apple Watch Ultra, and Apple Watch SE (second generation). The latter was previously speculated to be known as the Apple Watch Pro, but those rumours are now irrelevant. The launch has officially taken place, and we have all the juicy info directly from the company.

Apple Watch Ultra, Watch Series 8 and Apple Watch SE

At Apple’s launch event on September 7, the Apple Watch Series 8, Watch Ultra, and second-generation Watch SE were formally unveiled. The question of “what’s the difference between the Apple Watch Series 8, Apple Watch SE, and Apple Watch Ultra?” is likely one of many that you have asked in the meantime. If that’s the case, let’s run through a review of each of these watches below!

Details of Apple Watch Ultra, Watch Series 8 and Apple Watch SE

First, let’s start with the Apple Watch Series 8. The much-heralded skin temperature sensor, which simultaneously improves sleep tracking and menstrual tracking, is one of its many new features. Due to its two-sensor setup, it can detect changes of 0.1 degrees Celsius.

There’s also the new Crash Detection feature on the Apple Watch Series 8. It’s also dust- and water-resistant. Its battery life is 18 hours, and a new low-power mode can extend that to 36 hours.

The watch is available in four colours, including metallic silver, gold, and graphite shades as well as midnight, starlight, silver, and product red. It will be available starting on September 16 for $399 / AU$629 for the GPS model and $499 / AU$789 for the cellular version (opens in a new tab).

The Apple’s Watch Ultra is the next in line with a cost of around $799 in the US and $1,299 in Australia.. It is robust, capable of withstanding temperatures of -20 degrees Celsius or 150 degrees Fahrenheit, and thanks to its 49mm titanium case, it is the largest Apple Watch ever.

It comes with a new, editable Action button. Now, you can start your workout, switch between race legs for triathletes, and use the new Depth app while you’re underwater by pressing the Action button on the Ultra. With a 36-hour battery life and a low-power workout mode, it should be possible to run a long race while receiving complete GPS coverage.

It uses a new, precise dual-GPS solution, L5, with custom positioning algorithms, which Apple claims to be “the most accurate GPS of any smartwatch in the market”.

Finally, the Apple Watch SE 2 is outfitted with many of the same features and specs that come with the Watch 8, and at a great price – $249 / AU$399for the GPS model and $299 / AU$479 for the cellular model. With an aluminium casing, you can choose between silver, midnight, and starlight colors.

Similar to the Series 8, the Apple Watch SE 2 has the new Crash Detection feature and skin temperature sensor. It is also dust- and swim-proof. Due to the new S8 processor, the screen is 30% bigger than the Watch 3 and 20% faster than the previous Apple Watch SE, but Apple has cut corners on other new hardware to keep the price low.

In our opinion, it’s a smart move because the new processor will enable all of watchOS 9’s fantastic features without necessitating frequent component updates that would significantly increase the cost.
