The Xiaomi Mi 9T is yet to push the stable MIUI 12.5 update, although the Pro variants received the update weeks ago. Instead, Xiaomi is rolling out a new Android 11-based MIUI 12 update to the global units to improve security and stability. It’s possibly the last update before MIUI 12.5 starts seeding, and we recommend that you download the new global Mi 9T stable update for a seamless transition.
While Xiaomi is sending out MIUI 12.5 and Android 11 simultaneously to the Mi 9T Pro, they have only pushed Android 11 to the Mi 9T. Perhaps, the device won’t handle two OS upgrades at the same time. Also, coupled with the complaints after each MIUI update, the company might have decided to release the updates one at a time. That’s the possible reason why the Mi 9T is still running MIUI 12, but we expect the build to start seeding after this current version.
That said, we recommend that you download the new global Mi 9T stable update, which improves security and stability. Although the changes on the log are different, that’s if you’re upgrading to Android 11 for the first time. And if that’s the case, you should back up your data before installing the build. That would come in handy in a situation factory reset becomes necessary after upgrading as early adopters were able to fix some problems doing that. However, that won’t fix the third-party launcher compatibility issue and the ugly square chat bubbles.
Meanwhile, the new update, aside from bumping the security patch level to July 2021, fixed some bugs. It also improved performance while fortifying the device for the planned MIUI 12.5 update. Unfortunately, there’s no ETA as to when the update will start seeding, but it should be soon.
