Google is yet to release the stable Android 12 update, but given that the build has reached platform stability, OEM can now start rolling it out. What it means is that moving forward, there’ll be no changes or additional features. That is why app developers have been asked to start testing the compatibility of their apps with the next Android OS. Of course, Xiaomi has joined, although they have been doing that internally for quite some time now. However, the company is taking a different approach as it looks to allow the public through its closed beta program to test Android 12.
The company recently rolled out the Android 12 beta update to the Mi 11, and now, the first Redmi K40 Pro/Pro+ / MI 11i & Mi 11X Pro Android 12 update has been released. That was expected as the device was among the first few Xiaomi phones to go into beta testing internally for the update. And now, those participating in the closed beta group can Download and install the Android 12 build.
The update is seeding as part of the latest closed beta update. It is currently arriving for eligible users in China with a version number – MIUI 12.5 V21.8.29. If you are a closed beta tester, the update should arrive on your device in the coming hours. It brings the features of Android 12, but you might likely not notice some of it because of MIUI.
Of course, the Redmi K40 Pro/Pro+ / MI 11i & Mi 11X Pro Android 12 beta update came with a warning. According to Xiaomi, “this update is an Android cross-version upgrade. In order to reduce the risk of the upgrade, it is recommended to back up personal data in advance. This update takes a relatively long time to start and load, and performance and power consumption problems such as micro heat and micro card may occur within a short period of time after starting. Please be patient. Some third-party applications have no version adaptation, which will affect normal use. Please upgrade carefully.”
