Official features of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5

Samsung has addressed a fundamental issue with the Galaxy Z Fold 5 – the device now closes completely flat, thanks to its redesigned Flex Hinge. This twin rail construction ensures that external shocks are dispersed efficiently, resulting in a more robust and reliable hinge. The improved Flex mode allows users to position the phone at various angles, making hands-free picture capturing and split-screen app usage a breeze.

In terms of design, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is 10g lighter and thinner than its predecessor, thanks to its flat folding position. It maintains the durability of its predecessors, featuring an Armor Aluminum frame and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 glass layer covering both the exterior display and rear. Additionally, the phone retains its IPX8 water resistance rating, offering peace of mind against accidental splashes and exposure to water.

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 boasts impressive displays, with the cover display measuring 6.2 inches and the main screen expanding to 7.6 inches. Both are Dynamic AMOLED 2X panels, offering vivid colors and sharp visuals. The primary screen has become 30% brighter this year, reaching a maximum brightness of 1,750 nits, enhancing outdoor visibility and viewing experiences.

Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 ensures robust performance, similar to the Galaxy S23 series. The improved cooling system and larger surface area allow for efficient heat dissipation, contributing to sustained performance during heavy usage.

While the focus of the Galaxy Z Fold series has never been primarily on the camera, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 retains the same camera setup as its predecessor. It features two selfie cameras – a 10MP f/2.2 1.22m front camera on the cover screen and a 4MP f/1.8 2.0m under-display camera on the interior. On the rear, there’s a 50MP f/1.8 1.0m wide-angle shooter, a 12MP f/2.2 1.12m ultrawide camera, and a 10MP f/2.4 1.0m 3x zoom snapper.

The battery capacity remains at 4,400mAh, supporting 25W cable charging and 15W wireless charging, allowing for a 50% charge in 30 minutes. The new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor contributes to enhanced battery efficiency, ensuring longer battery life compared to previous models.

Samsung has also improved multitasking in the Galaxy Z Fold 5, offering an upgraded taskbar that keeps up to four recent apps for quick switching. The two-handed drag and drop feature makes it seamless to move items across apps and screens. The new S Pen Fold Edition, thinner and more compact than its predecessor, enhances productivity and creativity for users who prefer stylus input.
