Xiaomi announced the Redmi 9 back in June, but somehow it came pre-installed with MIUI 11, albeit the MIUI 12 has been released at that time. But unlike the global models, the Chinese variants run MIUI 12 outside of the box and have also got subsequent updates based on the new Android skin while the Global users can only wait.
Considering that the Chinese models have been running the update for months now, one would expect the Global stable update for the Redmi 9 to have arrived. However, it seems some bugs have plagued the update, which according to the Xiaomi executive, is still under internal testing.
Going by the words of Alvin Tse, Xiaomi executive in Indonesia, in response to a user query “when Redmi 9 receive MIUI 12”, of which he answered, “No exact date yet as still under testing. Hopefully this month but if not the Nov.”
Hopefully, we’ll see the global stable MIUI 12 update for the Redmi 9 start arriving this month. However, we advise you to keep your hopes in check as updates always encounter setbacks, which can have them delayed. Also, MIUI 12 development version internal testing is suspended due to the 2020 National holiday in China and will resume on October 12, 2020. Although global users don’t participate in beta testing, it will affect the update rollout schedule on global units.
But then, the goal should be a clean global stable MIUI 12 update for the Redmi 9. We have seen so many complaints about the MIUI 12 update, and it’d be best for the company to take time and fix all these issues before sending this update to the public.
However, we’ll keep tabs on the development and will update this space once the update is certified okay, and ready for download. Until then, you can check the latest Xiaomi offerings – Mi 10T series.
