Google Calendar gets Material You widget redesign

After a two-month anticipation, Google has waived its wand, and the Material You redesign for Google Calendar is officially making its way into the hands of users. The once-lone + symbol has given way to a vibrant FAB (Floating Action Button), a familiar sight from other Material You widgets, such as the beloved Google Keep. Notably, this button floats gracefully above the content, remaining accessible and ready to assist at all times.
As the winds of change sweep through, Dynamic Color theming steps in, ushering in a fresh visual experience. The backdrop transforms into a canvas of dynamic hues, leaving behind the binary choices of bright or dark. In the compact 22 size, the day and date command a more prominent presence, inviting users to interact with their schedules effortlessly. The redesign dances a careful line, ushering in an element of novelty while ensuring a smooth transition for users who’ve grown accustomed to the app’s rhythm.
The reimagining doesn’t stop there. Google has graced the “Calendar month view” widget with its Material You makeover. Here, a themed backdrop envelops the widget’s canvas, accompanied by the timeless charm of the FAB perched elegantly in the top-right corner. This shift prompts the arrows to relocate to the left, echoing the subtle symphony of Material 3’s signature padding. It’s worth noting that this tantalizing glimpse into the future was initially teased by Google back in October 2021. Now, these captivating Material You widgets stand ready to grace your Google Calendar, as part of version 2023.30.0.x.
A quick tip for those keen on indulging in this refresh: If the changes haven’t yet unfurled, a simple Force stop of the application via App info might be required, followed by the replacement of your widget. Keep in mind, the widget picker preview remains unchanged amidst this transformative wave.
