Google supposedly working on eSIM transfer support for Pixel phones

The Android 13 QPR2 Beta 2 update was rolled out to almost all Pixel smartphones, however, sources haven’t completely unveiled what features are hidden in the software update. Well, our popular tipster, Mishaal Rahman has discovered a string of code in the QPR2 Beta 2 update that allows eSIM transfer support.

Details on the eSIM transfer support

Since 2017(that’s from the era of Pixel 2), Google has been using the eSIM process but the eSIM transfer support hasn’t had a fruitful yield because of the inconsistencies with Android – although eSIM usage has been a bit seamless with Samsung expanding support as well.

Mishaal Rahman discovered a string of code in the QPR2 beta update that says the eSIM transfer support will be coming from Pixel devices(at least those running on Android 13). If Pixel devices have gotten the feature fully, there’s a high probability of it spreading to Samsung and then other OEMs. Meanwhile, it was said that other than introducing eSIM transfer support, switching the physical sim to eSIM will be made available as well(although still uncertain).

eSIM transfer support

Most carriers(as it is today) will not allow switching to esims from physical sim if you didn’t activate your smartphone with physical sim. eSIM transfer support seems in the air even with the code discovery, there’s however a high probability that with Android 14 coming soon, it should be quite stable. For reference, Apple’s iPhone 14 went eSIM only in the US and also made the ability to switch from a physical profile sim to an eSIM – but the latter comes with a long period of upgrades and you might incur headaches as well.
