We’ve been hearing about how smartphones and wearables receive their updates that we might have probably forgotten about the software network of Google(apart from the prominent waves of Android 14). Well, Google didn’t forget the software network as the Google File Manager app is getting a new design.
All there is to the Google File Manager app design
First off, it is worth noting that the new Google File Manager app takes up the Material You theme. Google File Manager app, which comes preinstalled on Pixel devices and several other Android handsets, initially became widely available in 2018. However, the app has yet to fully embrace Material You. There have been rumors of app support since 2021, but it hasn’t been available until now.
Material You has come as a server-side upgrade on top of Files by Google v1.292.525444002. The “Browse” tab of the app has been revamped with Material-looking tap targets and a cleaner appearance. Material You’s trademark accent color changes to the backdrop and bottom bar have been included in the app as well. The functional modifications are slight, but the overall appearance is vastly improved.
Notably, this update includes a full-width search bar at the top of the app, similar to other Material You designs, as well as the removal of the continuous Files by Google branding. Should the update haven’t gotten to your Google File Manager app, you can move over to Play Store and download it. If it still hasn’t been available, you should be patient as it will eventually get to your smartphone.
