As usual, Google is used to rolling out beta releases of updates before the consumer launch will come on later. The Android 14 beta 1 update is the “initial beta-quality release” – more to come before the consumer launch.

What’s new with the Android 14 beta 1

Google is making the back gesture a lot more aesthetic and intentional in its function. The more prominent back arrow(which is housed in a pill) will “improve back gesture understanding and usefulness.” “In addition, the system now uses more app signals to determine the ranking of the direct share targets. You provide the signal by calling push DynamicShortcut to report shortcut usage with the corresponding capability bindings.”

Also, there are more graphic capabilities via the Android 14 beta 1 which gives room for a “powerful and flexible mechanism for creating and rendering vector graphics” plus more personalization. Not to forget the Privacy features which

  • Protect user data (such as personal details or plaintext passwords)
  • Prevent critical actions from being executed unintentionally (such as transferring money or checking out in a shopping app)

The Android 14 Beta 1 which bears build number UPB1.230309.014 or UPB1.230309.014.A1 for Pixel 6 series on Verizon is available on Pixel 4a 5G, Pixel 5, Pixel 5a, Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, and Pixel 7 Pro, as well as the Android Emulator.
