These days, there are a lot of cyber crime going on. Most tech services are trying their best to ensure that there is no leak of private information to scammers. Google is doing just that by improving Gmail security with a new update.

What does the latest update say about Gmail security?

The latest update to Gmail security introduces an additional layer of protection for users who perform sensitive actions within the app. This enhancement specifically focuses on activities related to filters, forwarding, and IMAP access settings. When users initiate these actions, they will receive a prompt to authenticate the activity using a 2-step verification code or another trusted factor. If the verification challenge is rejected or not completed, the user’s device will receive a “Critical security alert” warning.

It’s important to note that this added Gmail security feature is applicable only to users who utilize Google as their identity provider and for activities performed within Google products (SAML users are not supported). Users won’t need to search for this feature in the app’s settings, but having 2-step verification enabled is recommended.

Both Google Workspace clients and users with personal Google Accounts will have access to this heightened security for sensitive operations in Gmail. The update will roll out to the quick release domain within the next two weeks, while planned release domains will receive it starting September 6, taking up to three days for full deployment.
