Talk about securing your credentials and passcodes even better. In a bid to remove website and app passwords, there is the introduction of passkeys. And now, Google passkey support for Android and Chrome is rolling out.

Google Passkey support for Android and Chrome?

The passkey from Google is in a way similar to what we’ve got from password managers. It gets all your credentials and passwords as well as your fingerprint confirmed before they are automatically entered. What’s more, the Google passkey support for Android and Chrome is subject to synchronization. Yes, you can sync your passkey to the Google Password manager, in that way, you “will avoid lockouts in the case of device loss”.

The support will be coming in for early adopters of the Google Play services and users of Chrome Canary. Meanwhile, it was related by sources that a stable launch will be coming in later this year.

That said, other than the Google Passkey support for Android and Chrome, Developers can build Passkey support with Chrome via the WebAuthn API on Android and other platforms. To create a passkey on your phone (for a compatible service), you can follow the photos (courtesy of 9to5google).

Signing into a desktop or laptop with a passkey on your phone will require a QR code. Alongside the stable launch of these features, Google is planning on releasing an API for stock Android apps to enable the passkeys to function on mobile applications. For third party credential managers on Android, they will be able to offer the passkey function to their users by next year.
