Potential Solutions to Google Pixel 7 and 7 Pro Headphone Jack/Adapter Not Working

1. Try Rebooting the Phone

If you encounter performance issues, crashes, freezes, or connectivity issues with your Google Pixel 7 or 7 Pro, restarting the device may help resolve the problem. To do that, follow these steps:

  • Press and hold the Power and Volume Up buttons simultaneously.
  • Then, tap on Restart.

Note: If your device has a low battery and won’t turn on, charge it for at least 10 minutes before attempting to restart.

2. Restart the Phone in Safe Mode

If you suspect that a third-party application is causing the problem, you can restart your device in Safe Mode to temporarily disable all third-party apps and services. Here are the steps to follow:

  • Ensure that your Google Pixel 7 or 7 Pro is turned on.
  • Press and hold the Power and Volume Up buttons simultaneously for a few seconds.
  • Release the buttons when you see the ‘Power off’ prompt.
  • Tap and hold the Restart option until the ‘Reboot to safe mode’ option appears.
  • Read the disclaimer and tap OK to confirm. Your device will now boot in safe mode.
  • The ‘Safe mode’ text will appear on the bottom left of the screen.
  • Turn off Airplane Mode and test the device and its features.
  • To exit Safe Mode, simply restart your device normally.

3. Enable USB Audio Routing

If you’re having issues with your adapter, you can try turning on the USB audio routing option on your Google Pixel 7/7 Pro device. Follow these steps:

  • Open the device Settings menu and tap on System.
  • Scroll down to Developer Options and tap on it.
  • Look for the “Media” option and tap on it.
  • Turn off “Disable USB Audio Routing”.

If the issue persists, move on to the next method.

4. Set Default USB Configuration

You can also try changing the “Default USB configuration” option on your Google Pixel 7/7 Pro to “No data transfer” in the Developer Options menu. Here’s how to enable Developer Options:

  • Open the Settings app and tap on About phone.
  • Tap on Build number seven times until you see the message “You are now a developer!”
  • Go back to the previous screen and find Developer Options at the bottom.
  • Look for “Default USB configuration” and tap on it.
  • Set it to “No data transfer” and reboot the device.
  • Try connecting the adapter again to see if the issue has been resolved.

5. Try Cleaning the Type-C Port Gently

If your device’s Type-C port has accumulated dirt or dust, you can try cleaning it gently using a paper clip or air blower.

6. Check for Physical Damage to the Adapter

It’s also a good idea to check for physical damage to the adapter wire or port. Sometimes the wire can appear fine on the outside but may be damaged internally. If you suspect this might be the case, try using the adapter on another device to see if the issue persists.

Final Words

Experiencing issues with the headphone jack or adapter not working on your Google Pixel 7 or 7 Pro can be frustrating, but there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the problem. By following the solutions outlined in this guide, you can potentially fix the issue without having to seek professional assistance.
