Here’s the crux of the matter: Google is set to lay off about 12000 of its workers and while this sounds like very bad news, the brand thinks it’s for the better and the laid-off workers should be getting a little compensation for this circumstance.

Google to lay off about 12000 of its workers

Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Alphabet, said in an internal staff document seen by Reuters that the company plans to eliminate 12,000 positions across a range of industries and business units. This action comes just after Microsoft announced comparable layoffs, but according to this story, Google is planning to immediately terminate staff in several countries, including the US. According to reports, this accounts for up to 6% of the overall business.

It has been reported that Google will be making layoffs in some departments, including engineering and product development, corporate teams, and recruitment. The document reportedly also states that US personnel will be affected right away and that global layoffs are also anticipated. Those around the country will be subject to local employment rules.

The reason Google lay off about 12000 of its workers

“I am confident about the huge opportunity in front of us thanks to the strength of our mission, the value of our products and services, and our early investments in Al.”

Sundar Pichai focused on Google’s “investments in Al” and the “value” of the company’s “products and services” in the memo. To help Google “better weather the storm regardless of what’s ahead,” Pichai added said the business had worked to “rationalize where we can.” According to this initial assessment, affected employees have already received emails or phone calls.

Meanwhile, People who will be impacted have been notified, and they will get paid for the full notification period, which is at least 60 days. Additionally, a severance plan has been made available, starting at 16 weeks of pay plus an extra two weeks of pay for each consecutive year of employment.
