Speaking of location, Google has added beautiful features to Google Maps to spice your navigation world. Coming to Google Assistant, tweaks have been added to the software on both Wear OS, smartphones and even the Android Auto wasn’t left out. Now, the news about Google dishing location-based reminders on the Google Assistant is soothing as it means enhanced user experience.
Something done regularly by most Google Assistant users is using the voice feature to set reminders. Google dishing location-based reminders on the app means within the Google Assistant, where Google reminders are, users can set reminders using location. For instance, ” Remind me to get a haircut at New Look”.
Google dishing location-based reminders, a feature which won’t be seen for long
Navigating to the Google app, moving to your account avatar and then clicking Reminders show a blue banner which says” soon you will no longer be able to set reminders at the location. Learn more about alternatives”.
While people noticed the change today, a lot of users are still puzzled at why the feature will be going away since it’s a common Google Assistant action. However, the support article which Google links explain further and present Assistant Routines as a substitute for location-based reminders.
Probably the company thinks the system behind the Google Assistant location-based reminders is quite basic and thus needs an upgrade. The list UI doesn’t look very appealing as well as even the banner saying the location-based reminders are going away doesn’t look so nice on the dark theme.
We still hope the company is going to look into the Google Assistant UI as sources also spotted a Memory feature which might help supercharge saving and reminders on Android. Meanwhile, the help page also says the location-based reminders will be leaving soon but there isn’t any specified date, so till then, we can still keep setting reminders with locations.
