There are a lot of things that can affect the gaming performance of your computer. One of the most important is the frame rate or fps. The higher the FPS, the smoother the game will run. In this article, we’ll give you some tips on how to increase FPS on your computer and improve your gaming experience.
How to increase FPS on your computer
The best gaming computers can be very costly but if we have a mid-range machine, we have several options to optimize it to improve its gaming performance. Here are some tips we can use to increase FPS on your computer:
Have a good cooling system
The biggest problem with having high performance on a computer is temperature. This is because the higher the temperature, the more our computer will slow down. So how can we reduce the temperature? The best way is to do preventive maintenance, clean dust, change thermal paste, etc.
If possible, you can add 1 or 2 fans in the front of the PC drawer, and one in the back to extract hot air. It is also important to install a good heat sink for the CPU, or if possible, install a liquid cooling system. By achieving temperatures below 60º C it will guarantee us to be able to obtain the maximum potential of the components.
Install an SSD
This will greatly optimize your PC, especially if you install an M.2 NVMe drive, which has a very high transfer rate. With this you will gain 2 things, Windows will load much faster and so will your games.
Optimize your RAM
It is recommended to have at least 16 GB of RAM to play video games. Modern memories have XMP profiles, which allow memory to be overclocked but very safely. For this, you must enter your BIOS and activate the JEDEC profiles.
Optimize graphic settings
It is very important to verify that the monitor is working at its maximum refresh rate, this will give you a better sense of fluidity in the image. For example, if the game is running at 120 FPS but your monitor is running at 60 Hz, you will actually see the game at 60 FPS.
From the graphic settings of Windows or the drivers, you can see the options available for your monitor. You just have to choose a good resolution and the best refresh rate that appears.
Optimize the operating system
It’s important to optimize performance for gaming on whatever operating system you’re using. To ensure that the components are always delivering their maximum, it is important to go into the power profiles and activate the Maximum performance.
It is possible that this option is disabled, in that case, press the Windows + X keys, then select Windows PowerShell (admin) and type the following command without the quotes “powercfg -duplicatescheme e9a42b02-d5df-448d-aa00-03f14749eb61”.
It is also ideal to install an antivirus that consumes few resources. Yes, they are necessary, but generally, Windows Defender is sufficient, it is quite stable, and does not consume so many resources plus it is reliable.
It is also recommended to disable some visual effects that are not important. From the Settings menu, navigate to Accessibility, Display, then you can find options like “Show Transparency”, Animations, etc. From the same Settings menu, you can also disable Cortana, which consumes few but precious resources.
Finally, you can use the Disk Cleanup tool and delete all the junk files, defragment the disk and uninstall programs that we don’t use.
To do this, click on the taskbar, then open the Windows Task Manager. Then go to the “Startup” tab and disable those programs that are not useful but may be consuming a lot of resources.
If you follow the above procedures, you will increase FPS on your computer and increase its gaming performance.
