If you want to install Windows 11 on your computer but you don’t have your product key, there are still ways that you can get the operating system working on your device, thanks to Microsoft’s recent Digital license innovation that enables the linking of an existing Windows license to its Microsoft account and hardware.
In this guide, we’ll show you how to install Windows 11 without product key in two different methods.
How to install Windows 11 without product key
To install Windows 11 without the product key, you will be needing the same Microsoft account that holds the key or an admin account.
1. Installing Windows For the first time
When installing windows for the first time on your computer, you will be presented with two options;
Enter key to activate Windows.
I don’t have a product key.
Select the second option from the above, and Windows installation will proceed. You will then be asked to sign in to a Microsoft account. Ensure you sign in using the primary account that was used to purchase the Microsoft software, and the installation of Windows without the product key will be completed.
You can now begin to use your system with Windows 11 installed, however, with some bit of limitations. To clear every limitation, you can purchase a license by navigating to Settings > System > Activation, to activate Windows fully.
2. Activate Windows after Installation
For this method, Windows needs to have been activated at least once during the previous installation.
Now, if are reinstalling Windows and also own a key, you will need to install the same version of Windows that was previously installed, using the same Microsoft account used in purchasing the key. When prompted to enter your product key, indicate that you don’t have one by selecting the second option. And if you have used your primary Microsoft account, Windows will be activated immediately after the installation. If not activated, you will need to troubleshoot the Windows activation process.
Rounding up,
Installing Windows is no longer as complicated as it use to be, as Microsoft has introduced the option that lets you just install, and activate later. Following the steps above, we can now be able to install Windows 11 without entering a product key.
