How to improve battery life on Xiaomi phone after HyperOS upgrade

While Xiaomi continues to release HyperOS updates to eligible users, a handful of phones are running the much-anticipated upgrade. It brings a slew of new features and importantly, a way to improve battery life on your Xiaomi phones.

There are many reports about battery drain after installing HyperOS. While we have not experienced it on our device running HyperOS 1.0, we are not disputing that. However, after installing a major update, it often leads to battery drain, which improves with time. We noticed an improvement in the battery performance straightway, but if you are not that lucky, there is a way to improve battery life on Xiaomi.

Xiaomi improved many things in HyperOS. We notice that scrolling and animation are smooth, which has improved battery life. You will get an extended screen on time compared to what you were getting on MIUI, but you can also improve that. There is a feature introduced with HyperOS that allows switching off data when connected to Wi-Fi.

When connected to a Wi-Fi Mobile data remains active for fast network switching. You might want to disable the feature, as it not only drains the battery but also increases data consumption passively. Below are steps to turn it off.

How to improve battery life by turning off mobile data always active

Before you can turn off the option, you need to be a developer but do not worry, no coding is involved. Head to Settings >>My device >>Detailed info and specs. Tap on your device’s HyperOS version until you become a developer.

  • To disable ‘Mobile data always active,’ go back to settings, scroll down, and tap on Additional settings.
  • Tap on Developer options, which is towards the bottom, and find ‘Always keep mobile data on,’ and turn it off.

We recommend turning the option off if you are always connected to Wi-Fi, as you might miss out on important notifications if you disconnect from Wi-Fi.
