How to install Google play store on Xiaomi phones running MIUI 12.5

It no news that Google is blocked in China, and as a result, ROMs developed for use in that country don’t feature Google play services. Xiaomi, a Chinese company, doesn’t pre-install Google play services on its phones running Chinese ROM but makes it easy to install until the recent development. A couple of months ago, the company announced it’s going to block the Google framework for its Chinese phones. That move saw Google play store removed from the company’s GetApp store in China. Since then, those running Chinese ROM can’t install Google play service on their phones.

However, not everyone running Chinese ROM is facing this difficulty. Only those running MIUI 12.5 are unable to install Google play services. Luckily, there’s a way to successfully install Google play store on Xiaomi phones running MIUI 12.5. Sadly, this method might not work on all Xiaomi phones. Only those devices that debuted with Snapdragon 800-series (SD 855, 865, 888) can use this method to install the Google play store.

Interestingly, installing Google play store on Xiaomi phones running MIUI 12.5 with this method won’t require downloading Google installer. You’re only required to enable a toggle to show the Google play store on your device.

How to install Google play store on Xiaomi phones running MIUI 12.5

  • Step 1. Head over to settings, click on Account & Sync
  • Step 2. Click on “Basic Google services” and enable the toggle
  • Step 3. Go back and add a new Google account. Enter your Google ID and password to log in.
  • Step 4. On completion, the Google play store app will appear on your device.
  • Step 5. Launch the app and enable the Google play service for that app to start working

Unfortunately, this method only works for those using a device with Snapdragon 800 series Soc. Aside from that, you’ll need to flash a custom ROM, perhaps, flash global ROM. Of course, Global ROM comes pre-installed with Google play store and services.
