The July 2023 security patch for Google Pixel devices has started rolling out, providing essential security updates for various Pixel models. The update is being pushed to devices including Pixel 4a, 4a 5G, 5, 5a, 6, 6 Pro, 6a, 7, 7 Pro, 7a, and Tablet.
Interestingly, the on-device over-the-air (OTA) updates are being delivered(via 9to5google) before Google has made the complete factory or OTA images available for manual flashing or sideloading. Additionally, the detailed changelog for the update is not yet available. This is reminiscent of a similar situation that occurred with Android 14 Beta 3 last month. The update sizes vary, with the Pixel Tablet receiving a 23.27 MB update and the Pixel 7 getting a 21.67 MB update. Considering the release of QPR3 last month, this update is expected to be relatively minor.
The Android 13 July security patch, dated 2023-07-01, addresses 26 security issues, while the 2023-07-05 patch resolves 20 issues. These vulnerabilities range in severity from moderate to critical. In addition, the dedicated security bulletin for Google devices highlights 14 additional security fixes.
