It’s never all Xiaomi phones that will receive the full features of MIUI 12. Recall that Dark mode was a feature of MIUI 11, but not all Xiaomi phones got it, and that’s what will happen with some MIUI 12 camera features. Only a few Xiaomi phones will receive some of these features.
The reason Xiaomi is limiting these new camera effects to only a few numbers of its phone is that every phone has a different development, so each of the camera modes needs to be developed for a specific platform. Although it’s a general work, there’s extra work to be done before it can adapt to each of the device hardware platforms. Below are the new MIUI 12 camera features and a list of devices that’ll receive each one.
List of new MIUI 12 camera features and devices to get them.
AI Magic Doppelganger
The AI Magic Doppelganger is one of the few effects that stand out among all the MIUI 12 camera features. It presents special features that allow users to clone images multiple times and then merge to create an amazing effect. If you’re familiar with TikTok, you will understand what Doppelganger is all about.

AI Magic Kaleidoscope
The AI Magic Kaleidoscope is an interesting MIUI 12 camera feature, which will also arrive for some Xiaomi phones. Meanwhile, it seems Kaleidoscope debuted on the recently unveiled Mi 10 Youth Edition. The mode allows the creation of striking effects, color tweaks, rotating images and merging photos even in videos.

Video shooting combining both cameras: primary and selfie
We have seen this feature on the Nokia 8, and now, Xiaomi will integrate it into their camera app. It allows users to shoot amazing videos by combining the primary and selfie camera.

Other MIUI 12 camera features
Aside from the camera effect already listed, other modes will also be introduced with MIUI 12. They’re shooting mode in GIF format, compatible only on Mi 10 Youth, Mi 10, and Mi 10 Pro, Redmi K30 Pro/ POCO F2 Pro.
The new ‘Long exposure’ which will be debuting with Redmi 10X will also arrive for Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro and Redmi K30 Pro/ POCO F2 Pro. Meanwhile, the long exposure effect allows you to take camera shots in combination with moving lights.
For now, only the devices we have under each camera mode will get the function. However, we expect more Xiaomi phones to receive some of these features with subsequent MIUI 12 updates. But considering that most devices miss out because of compatibility issues, we might never see Xiaomi mid-range phones get these camera effects.
