Manage Virtual ID for individual apps with the latest MIUI 12.5 closed beta update

Xiaomi in-house Android skin – MIUI – is one of the most feature-rich UI out there. The company recently revamped the system with the MIUI 12 and is now working on improving the stability with the latest iteration. They are currently rolling out the MIUI 12.5 update, which has already made it to a handful of devices. It comes with features that are essentially on optimization while closed beta groups continue to test new features. The current update released for the group now makes it possible to manage Virtual ID for individual apps.

Virtual ID

When Xiaomi rolled out MIUI 12 months ago, they improved the security of their phones by enhancing the privacy of MIUI. And with the release of MIUI 12.5, the company continues to enhance its security. Currently, the company is rolling out a new update to closed beta groups that brings an interesting feature. The update has a software designation number – MIUI 12.5 V21.5.31, meaning it was released on June 31, 2021. With the update, Xiaomi gives users the privilege to allow or restrict individual apps from accessing their virtual ID.

It’s no news that Xiaomi MIUI Android skin has adware. That has been the company’s strategy to generate more revenue while making only 5% off its products. Of course, ads work better when personalized, which is how our interaction with apps comes to play. These apps generate data used to display personalized ads, but it’s now possible to restrict an app from accessing your virtual ID.

With the latest MIUI 12.5 closed beta update, you can manage apps that access your virtual ID. By doing so, you can remain anonymous on the internet, and apps won’t be able to access some of your data. However, when an app is restricted, ads recommendation becomes irrelevant, and in some cases, won’t function well.

Unfortunately, only closed beta groups have received this feature, and it is unknown when it will become available to stable ROM users. It’s unclear when global users will get the feature, perhaps with MIUI 13.
