The Redmi 5 Plus debuted in December 2017 with Android 7.1 on top of MIUI 9. It picked Android 8.1 on the road with MIUI 10 and got the MIUI 11 last year. However, it’s to be seen if the MIUI 12 update for Redmi 5 Plus will happen. It has been over a year since Xiaomi released an update for the device, and we thought things had taken a positive turn when the Redmi Note 5 got a stable release some months ago. Unfortunately, no update came for the Redmi 5 Plus, and just yesterday, the MIUI 12 update started hitting the global version – Redmi Note 5.
The Redmi Note 5 is the same phone as Redmi 5 Plus. The latter was for Chinese users while the former sold globally, and hence, both phones have the same development and even design. It makes sense that the MIUI 12 update for Redmi 5 Plus will arrive soon, but we’ll have to wait and see. Probably, Xiaomi doesn’t see the need to update this device, and maybe those currently using the device is not enough to start developing a MIUI 12 build. Nevertheless, we are optimistic the update will arrive sometime in the future since the company hasn’t completed the rollout yet.

That said, we will be on the lookout for additional information and maybe from official Xiaomi. However, most times, the support is not reliable, like what happened with the Redmi Note 5/Pro. One of the support team alleged the device wouldn’t receive the MIUI 12 update, and it wasn’t even up to a month, the update started rolling out. We are still going to update this space if we get anything information from them, though. But until the MIUi 12 rollout is completed, Redmi 5 Plus has got a chance.
