Xiaomi might as well have concluded the MIUI 12 rollout given the number of phones that have dropped from the official list, released during the global launch. On the list were the Redmi 7, Redmi 6A, and Redmi Note 5, other phones. You can check out the full list here.

However, there has been a series of changes and omissions of some device from the list. A couple of weeks ago, the company confirmed it wouldn’t be upgrading the Redmi 7, Redmi 6A, Redmi Y3 to MIUI 12 due to a compatibility issue. And looking at the recent development, it looks like the Redmi Note 5/5Pro won’t receive MIUI 12 as well.

According to a screenshot posted on “MIUI 12 Official forum” on Telegram, Redmi Note 5/5Pro won’t receive the MIUI 12 update. The content of the screenshot alleged that the MIUI 12 update will compromise the performance of the device. Therefore, it’s fair to say that the device has now joined the likes of Redmi 7, Redmi 6, Redmi 6A, Redmi Y3 and won’t receive the MIUI 12 update.

There has been a strong belief that the Redmi Note 5/5Pro (Redmi 5 Plus) will receive the MIUI 12 update, but that’s not going to happen now, which is frustrating. Probably, it’s the end of the road for the device, which debuted in 2017. The device only picked two MIUI upgrades: MIUI 10 and 11, and it seems Xiaomi now provides only two MIUI upgrades for mid-range phones.

Meanwhile, the screenshot that confirmed Redmi Note 5/5Pro won’t receive MIUI 12 update is from Xiaomi support. Below is why the update has been suspended for the device.

We regret to inform you that after rounds of optimization and testing, we’ve come to the conclusion that Redmi Y3/ Redmi 7/ Redmi 6A/ Redmi 6/Redmi Note 5/5 Prowill not be updated to MIUI 12 due to performance issues. MIUI 12 update will severely compromise the device’s performance per testing results. With the device’s CPU and RAM capacity, the update will result in the device running slowly, system lagging and lower respond rate among other issues.
