The largest telecommunication network in Africa will partner with Ericsson to bring MTN 5G network connectivity to the continent. The company had already showcased a live demo in an event which took place in Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria.

However, the Nigeria Communications Commission is yet to approve the introduction of the MTN 5G network, but it didn’t stop the live demo. According to them, the live display was to educate Nigerians about the product and to showcase the ability and advantages of 5G in boosting the economy and social inclusion.

Benefits of MTN 5G network

According to the company, the new network connectivity will be 100 times faster than its predecessor. It promises up to 2.7Gbps download speed and 1.6Gbps in the upload. During the exhibition in Nigeria, the company gave a glimpse of the benefits of 5G with virtual reality, video conferencing, gaming, and 5G-connected health care.

While the company believes their 5G network is the highest speed achieved by a mobile network in Africa, they’re not doing much to provide 5G compatible smartphones. But as the company strives to improve its customer’s experience, we believe they’ll likely work with Samsung and other smartphone companies to make available 5G smartphone.

Meanwhile, other smartphone brands have already released some affordable 5G phones. Most of them are already up for sale on both offline and online stores. The Xiaomi Redmi K30 is the first 5G phone to be priced under $300 and it comes with amazing features.

It was Qualcomm that help spread the 5G network support to mid-range phones when they officially announced the SD 765 SoC. The processor can reach 2.7Gbps in download speed and up to 1.6Gbps upload with the help of the X52 modem.
