Another thing Xiaomi is very good at, aside from offering smartphones that give you value for your money, is rolling out timely security updates. Yesterday, the company started upgrading Redmi Note 7 Pro to Android 10, after the Redmi 7A received a stable Android 10 build a couple of days ago. Unfortunately, the Redmi Note 8 is yet to receive a new OS update, but according to previous reports, the update is in works.
Meanwhile, Xiaomi is now rolling out a Global Stable update for the Redmi Note 8. The update has a build number – MIUI 11.0.9.0 PCOMIXM – and weighs in at 422MB. It’s based on Android 9 still, but we expect that to change very soon, at least for the Chinese models.
The update bumps the security patch level to May while improving the system security and also fixes some bugs. As usual, the rollout is staged, meaning it will take some time before it appears on all compatible devices ( running official and latest MIUI ROM). Meanwhile, you can head over to the Updater and manually scan for the Global stable update for the Redmi Note 8.
From the feedback on Mi community forum, there are no visible changes, except for the new security patch level. And luckily, it didn’t leave any bug, so you should download the update. You might as well ignore the update and wait for the stable MIUI 12 build.
As for the Android 10 update, it’s like the Chinese version will be getting it this month. Thus far this month, Redmi Note 7 Pro and Redmi 7A have received Stable Android 10 build, and we expect the Note 8 to be the next in line. Also, considering that the device has been in Beta testing for months now, we might be days before the device starts receiving a stable Android 10 update.
