It’s becoming frustrating that Xiaomi is yet to upgrade the Redmi 9 to Android 11. That’s because the device won’t be getting the update with MIUI 12.5, as suggested. Xiaomi has already released a stable Redmi 9 Android 11 update in China, meaning the global variant will receive an Android 11 based MIUI 12 update. However, it doesn’t seem like the update is ready yet, or perhaps, Xiaomi wants to start the rollout in a region that’s not India. For that reason, the company is pushing a new Redmi 9 update in India with the current security patch.
The new Redmi 9 update in India brings the May security patch to increase system security and stability. It’s a 388MB package with a version number – MIUI 12.0.10.0 QCTINXM. The update also made adjustments on Xiaomi Mi cloud. Now, before the device is powered off, location info is automatically reported. That improvement is probably in a situation where you’re tracking a stolen phone that has been switched off. At least, you will get the last location, or perhaps, the spot it was switched off.
Meanwhile, as usual, the update is on a limited rollout. It will take a few days before the build arrives for everyone, and that’s if there’s no bug detected. Alternatively, you can download the build using the links below and flash via Recovery.
Concerning the global Redmi 9 Android 11 update, we expect it to start rolling out soon. Since the Chinese rollout has started, the update might arrive on global models in the coming weeks. Keep an eye on our tracker page to know when the update becomes available in your region.
