It’s taking forever for Xiaomi to release the MIUI 12 update, which is believed to come along with the Android 10 update for the Redmi Note 8. Recent reports suggested that the update might be arriving this month, but that seems unlikely now, at least for the Indian users of the device.
Xiaomi has just released a new stable update for the Redmi Note 8 users in India. The update brings the August security patch, which improves the system security. And yes, the update is based on Android 9, which means the wait for Android 10 continues.
Usually, it’s the Chinese version of Xiaomi phones that are first to receive major updates, and hence the arrival of the MIUI 12 update shouldn’t be ruled out yet, since the Chinese variants are yet to receive the current update. Also, other regions are yet to receive the update, and maybe Xiaomi plans to start the MIUI 12 rollout there before it comes to India.
Nevertheless, you should at least fortify your device with the latest security patch update. If you’re running the Indian ROM on your Redmi Note 8, head over to System Updates and scan for the new update, or follow the link below to download and flash manually.
The update is arriving with a build number, MIUI 11.0.6.0 PCOINXM, and weighs in at 253MB. It’s currently available for limited users, and depending on their feedback, a wider rollout might be initiated. On the changelog is an updated Android Security patch for August 2020 and increased System security.
