That’s another feature from Apple via iOS 17. The next-generation Apple Carplay will be coming in with this software and that’s in addition to the other features that are being rolled out with iOS 17.
Next-generation Apple Carplay features
Apple stated the first vehicles with next-generation Apple CarPlay compatibility will be unveiled in late 2023, with Acura, Audi, Ford, Honda, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Porsche, Volvo, and others on board. We’ve outlined five major things to look for in the upcoming CarPlay version ahead of time – via macrumors.
Instrument cluster integration
The new CarPlay experience will integrate with the instrument cluster of a car, including the speedometer, tachometer, odometer, fuel gauge, engine temperature gauge, oil pressure gauge, and more. According to Apple, drivers will be able to select from a variety of gauge cluster styles and layouts, including brand-specific alternatives.
Climate controls
You’ll be able to select the temperature of the A/C or heat, fan speed, heated seats, heated steering wheel, and other features directly from the latest version of CarPlay.
Multi-display support
The new CarPlay will be able to show on all of the displays in a car, delivering a uniform experience across the infotainment system, instrument cluster, and any extra dashboard screens. Apple claims that CarPlay will be customized for each new vehicle model to fit different screen sizes and layouts.
Widgets
Widgets will be a key part of the new CarPlay experience, offering at-a-glance information such as trip duration, fuel economy, distance traveled, calendar events, weather, phone calls, the status of a HomeKit-enabled garage door, and more. It will also be possible to view and scroll through the widgets within the instrument cluster.
Fm Radio app
The new CarPlay version will contain a brand-new Radio app that will allow you to effortlessly operate the FM radio in your vehicle, such as changing the channel.
So there you have it. All the features of the next generation Apple Carplay coming in via iOS 17.
