Play Store search coming to Pixel Launcher with Android 13

We continue to unveil more and more tweaks tied to Android 13. We obtained the full changelog on the OneUI 5 Android 13 and it was quite lengthy. Now, Android 13 is bringing a few changes to Pixel Launcher. We’re speaking of Play Store search among other interesting features.

The Android 13 consumer launch, a stable version, is expected sometime next month and we keep on getting new features from the Big G. The search bar at the bottom of your home screen on Pixel Launcher is now combined with the one at the top to allow search stuff on the web, search applications, app shortcuts, and even contacts.  If the phone has a hard time finding any of what is inputted, it directs you to search through the Play store, YouTube, or even Maps alongside Settings and Google search.

Details of Play Store Search

While the earlier mentioned feature isn’t live across most smartphones, we have noticed that Google is rolling out features from testing before the stable Android 13. One of them is the Play store search.

Searching for an app that isn’t installed on your phone shows you the results directly from the Play store alongside details of the app. You also get to see the rating, developer’s name as well as some other related apps of which the listing is seen directly when you tap on it.

However as mentioned earlier, some features of Android 13 aren’t available on all Pixel devices and this Play Store search is in the gang. According to 9to5google, it was spotted on just very few Pixel 6 series. But since it is from Android 13, of course, the Play store search will be available for us all when the stable version is rolled out.

That said, the Big G continues a survey centered around the Play Store search, quite interesting. The brand asks “what was your primary goal when you searched for On-device content in the search box?”

  • Find or manage phone settings
  • Find or browse content on an app
  • Find a person’s contact information
  • Find content on the web
  • Take an action on the app (e.g., send a text)
  • An app not installed on my phone
  • Other (please specify)
