Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 core configuration leaks have surfaced online. The successor to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 packs quite a punch and will thrive better in the market – probably even more than the predecessor did. Let’s take a look at the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 core configuration.

Kuba Wojciechowski tweeted a thread this evening with some of the first data regarding Qualcomm’s future Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 core configuration, dubbed “Lanai” or “Pineapple.” The processor will allegedly have a 2+3+2+1 layout, as opposed to the existing Snapdragon 8 Gen 2’s 1+4+3 arrangement.

The “titanium” cluster, which consists of two Arm “Hunter” (A7xx) cores, is the source of the new cluster. Two A5xx cores, three A7xx cores, two A7xx cores, and a single “gold+” core would comprise the whole configuration. It’s unclear how the “titanium” cluster would change, although Kuba speculates that it may be configured differently, such as with additional cache or clocked higher.

Significantly, these are new Arm cores that, according to Kuba, “replace the whole present portfolio.” These new chips appear to abandon 32-bit support completely, opting instead for 64-bit. That comes as no surprise given that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 already reduced 32-bit support to some extent, and Android has been leaning in that direction for some time.

Lastly, the post indicates that the GPU in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will be upgraded to Adreno 750, with a (current) maximum frequency of 770 MHz. The chip is also compatible with the Linux kernel 6.1 and Android 14. Qualcomm introduced the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in November 2022, but rumors suggest that the Gen 3 will be released earlier this year.
