The Redmi 7 was one of the phones released last year, running Android 9 on top of MIUI 11. We believed that the device would receive the MIUI 12 update, but that’s not going to happen, according to official Xiaomi. The device won’t receive the update due to compatibility and performance issues, albeit it was on the first official list of MIUI 12 rollout schedule. However, Xiaomi is yet to comment on the Redmi 7 Android 10 update, but one of the executives might have just given users a bit of hope.
According to Alvin Tse, Xiaomi executive in Indonesia, engineers are still checking the device (Redmi 7) for a possible Android 10 update. The Redmi 7 Android 10 update was supposed to arrive alongside MIUI 12, but since that has been ruled out, we’re yet to learn if the device will still get the OS update.
Meanwhile, we expect the device to receive Android 10 in the future, given that it debuted running Android 9. Most Xiaomi mid-range phones have always received at least one OS upgrade, and it won’t be nice for the company to change their policy on that. They need to release the update soon as a way to make up for the lack of MIUI 12.
That said, we are going to monitor the situation, and hopefully, the company is going to communicate its Redmi 7 Android 10 update plan very soon. And once we get additional information about the update, we’re going to update this space. You can follow us on Facebook or turn on our notification to get notified when the company decides on the next step concerning the phone.
However, with the following specs, the Redmi 7 should receive the Android 10 update: 6.26-inch IPS LCD panel, Snapdragon 632 Octa-Core processor with up to 4GB of RAM. It has a dual 12MP + 2MP rear camera sensor and a single 8MP selfie shooter. The fingerprint scanner is mounted on the back panel, while the battery capacity is 4000mAh with 10W fast charging.
