Xiaomi continues to surprise us, but more often, it is the Chines users that get all the good surprises. That was the case with Redmi 7, which is yet to receive the MIUI 12 update globally. Meanwhile, the update has since arrived for the Chinese ROM. Before the update was released in China, Xiaomi announced it would not be upgrading the device to MIUI 12, including Redmi Y3, Redmi 6A, and Redmi 6. However, a few weeks after the announcement, they started seeding MIUI 12 for the Chinese users, while the global users continue to wait. Surprisingly, the Redmi 7 MIUI 12.5 update has now been released in China as the wait goes on for global users.
Now, even Xiaomi can deny prioritizing the Chinese ROM users. That’s not entirely bad as a Chinese company, but it’s time they admit to it. Also, looking at the features arriving with the Redmi 7 MIUI 12.5 update is another indication of the company favouring the Chinese ROM users. There has been an improvement in system animation and new system sounds have been added. Also, with few optimization on the system, MIUI has become faster, smoother, and lighter. You can check for all the changes here.
Meanwhile, the update has a version number – MIUI 12.5.1.0 QFLCNXM – and weighs in at 682MB. Of course, it’s based on Android 10, which is the last OS upgrade for the device. There’s no plan for upgrading the device to Android 11, but with the features baked inside the new MIUI OS, you won’t notice what you might be missing with the current iteration of MIUI. However, only the Chinese users can enjoy that for now, but we hope it comes for the global users soon. That said, you should follow our tracker page to know when the update starts seeding for your region.
